Festool OF 1400 EQ Plunge Router. This is by far the most versatile router that Festool manufactures. It will provide you with all the power you need to put edge profile on a work piece, plunge into 8/4 Oak, and still remain light enough that you can use it on a dovetail machine.

The Router includes:

A dust extraction hood.

Chip Catcher.

Collet Wrench.

1/2", 1/4", and 8mm Collets.

Guide Bushing adapters for use with most domestic bushings (porter-cable).

Plug-it detachable power cord.

Comes in Systainer 4.

The 1400 features a high power output for it's weight. The grip is cool and makes it very easy to handle. The ratcheting spindle allows you to change the bit out with one wrench. Huge depth range to 2 3/4" adjustable in 1/256" increments.Near total dust extraction; and ultra-smooth running.

MMC Electronics maintains constant speed under load and provides for overload protection.

If you only have the dough for one router, this should be the one.

Other junkies had this to say:

I needed a replacement for my Milwakee 1 3/4hp that I recently melted,( yes melted). I do a lot of research on my tools before I purchase. I am not brand loyal in any real sense, I like Milwakee for the Sawsall and there 1/2 chuck drills are super tough. I don\'t as a rule take very good care of my tools. In general I abuse them, I push them to hard, push the limit on blade sharpness, drop them much to frequntly, & loan them to friends!
Tim sugested that the big mama-jama router would be the best bet for me, but I decided to go with the the mid size allround 1400. I didn\'t think I quite need to haul around the big dog every day. While every Festool tool seems really intimidating at first, the longer you use them the more everything else seems crude.
The first cool thing I never knew I needed is the single tool bit change. The dust collection is outstanding (even with the bag full). The router cuts smooth and even. While I am still getting used to the change in grip from my previous body grip router, the balance and ergonomics are top notch. I do mostly solid surface work but its 1\" to 1 1/2\" thick so I make a lot of chips in a day.
This router feels like I switched from a old Ford to a new Mercedes. I just can\'t bring myself to abuse it yet. Maybe once I get that first drop in I can get down to business of just how far I can push my new Merc.
4 of 5 Stars!

I love this router for its dust collection and also how its works with the Festool rails.

I used to use a Veritas Edge guide and a Porter Cable router but found the router would sometimes wander off the edge guide it I wasn't careful. This router has a mark on the base and allows me to line up my Dado's perfectly.

It took awhile for me to get used to the unorthodox handle but once you use it you will appreciate the control

My wife loves the dust collection and how it keeps chips from getting all over the laundry room (my workshop)
